Sharing Excess Volunteer Opportunity

On January 16th , you will have the opportunity to roll up your sleeves with the good people of Sharing Excess, a food rescue organization, to help our neighbors in need. If you’ve been thinking you’d like more hands-on involvement, here’s your chance!

Our job will be to clean and sort produce that has been donated for distribution to people who are experiencing food insecurity. Sharing Excess supplies food to many charities and shelters; this is their singular focus. Their mission statement is below.

If you are interested in volunteering, sign up using the attached Sign Up Genius. Read about the location, times, and dress requirements below before making your decision. We’ll need 10 volunteers. Please contact ambassador Lisa Palmieri if you have questions. e-toed shoes! Also, your clothes may get dirty - we're working with food so don't wear clothes you can't wash.
Sharing Excess is one of the fastest-growing food rescue organizations in America, built on a simple but powerful mission: to reduce food waste through scalable and sustainable solutions.

What started as a grassroots movement now operates across the country—moving nearly 2 million pounds of food every week to thousands of community partners nationwide.

Our work is visionary, impactful, and deeply human. We move quickly, think creatively, and operate like a high-growth startup—with the heart of a grassroots movement. From building custom technology to rethinking the food supply chain, we’re actively reshaping how food reaches communities.”

*St. Luke’s has a personal connection to the organization. Victoria Wilson, who is the granddaughter of Mary Mallas, is the head of operations for Sharing Excess. We are proud of the vision and drive of Victoria who, together with her boyfriend (the founder of Sharing Excess), proactively works to eliminate waste on one side and hunger on the other.
